Autumn Friends

John Weiss’ favorite theme of companionship is beautifully realized in Autumn Friends, his latest release. Brilliantly combining colors and textures, Weiss creates an image that conveys emotion and humanity. The pair of friends in this image may be familiar to collectors who have seen his series of Grady images, including Old Friends, Forever Friends and New Friends —all Sold Out at Publisher. In Autumn Friends, Weiss captures a man and his dog on a crisp autumn morning as they set out for another of life’s adventures together as faithful friends.

The Art of John Weiss: Deep and Loyal Bonds

John Weiss is one of America’s best-known animal portrait artists. He has admirers around the world, including Queen Elizabeth, who was presented with a Weiss painting from Lady Barlow. His paintings are considered to be much more than portraits. They convey the deep and loyal bond between dogs and their owners. His artwork reveals the irresistible charm, gentle nature and willingness to please that is characteristic of these adorable canines.

John reveals the unconditional love that’s expressed in the faces of these devoted companions. Through his paintings,Weiss puts us in touch with our own emotions and makes it easy for us to instantly and thoroughly enjoy his art. Weiss, a self-taught artist, was influenced by the realism and photographic quality that is found in the work of Andrew Wyeth. However, unlike Wyeth’s tendency to illustrate solitary and deserted landscapes,Weiss portrays warmth, comfort and a sense of well-being. “The relationship between a person and a dog is a familiar experience for just about everyone,” says Weiss.“Life can be rough sometimes, so if I can create something that makes people feel better, then that’s what I’ll do.”
