Silk Snapper
by Flick Ford
"Being new to snapper and reef fish in general, I thought I
had found a red snapper to paint when this large silk snapper was
landed," said the artist. "The guide and owner of Fat
Fish Adventures (and the most skilled hand-liner I know), Peter
Jervis, called it a 'red silky.' The confusion was mine. The bright
yellow eyes distinguish the silk snapper from the red-eyed red snapper.
There is a lot of deceptive nomenclature surrounding red snappers.
A study by the University of North Carolina found that seventy out
of twenty-two fish sold as red snapper were actually some other
kind of fish." .

Resistance Training
by James C. Christensen
Although the relationship between the quartet of tough-looking fish
and the determined cyclist in Resistance Training
may at first be unclear, the title offers some explanation: athletes
often train against a resisting force to build their strength. In
this particular case, however, as the fish tug stubbornly in the
other direction, we must wonderwho is training whom?

To Touch a Heart
by Steve Hanks
As the sunlight caresses her skin, the rapt subject of Steve Hanks'
striking new portrait To Touch a Heart
is carried away by the tide of her emotion. The dramatic light and
posture exquisitely captures this singular private moment. "The
nudes are basically the foundation of everything I paint,"
says the artist. "I return to paint nudes to sharpen up my
ability to paint the figure."
