Fox Dreams

by Stephen Lyman

"Steve loved to glorify the small, easily overlooked beauties of nature," recalls Andrea Lyman. The artist perfectly captured this snoozing fox that looks like he'd rather be left overlooked as he naps in his nest of leaves, branches and dried grasses.

Emmie's Catch

by Morgan Weistling

"It always amazes me how children who grow up around farm animals are so confident in handling them. I didn't have that farm upbringing, so when a four-year-old girl grabbed a chicken and hugged it wildly right in front of me, I marveled. Little Emmie held on for quite a while before the chicken broke free-only to be quickly wrangled again by her little blonde friend. I love to capture moments of joy like the one I saw on this day."

The Gunfighter

by Don Crowley

As the gunfighter squints into the distance we get a glimpse into the harsh life of a denizen of the Old West. Hardened and wary, The Gunfighter represents the wild frontiers of our nation in a time when the only law was survival and the only policeman a gun.

Indian Boy at Crow Fair

by James Bama
Crow Fair, held every summer, comprises the largest annual gathering of North American Indians. It lasts for five days and is attended by some ten thousand Indians who set up a thousand tepees. There are parades, rodeo events and horseracing. Drumming and dancing continue far into the early morning hours.

This boy was one of four Arapaho brothers from the Wind River reservation who danced at the fair. His distinctive costume and face paint represent his personal creativity and individual style.

Mountain Sentinel

by Daniel Smith

Humans have long been fascinated by the mystery of the raven. Throughout Europe, Asia and North America, early peoples told stories of raven gods and their deeds. This raven sits alone on a gnarled branch, staring vigilantly into the mountain mist. His eyes scan the sky, watching for predator, prey or anything in between. Like all of Daniel Smith's realistic wildlife scenes, Mountain Sentinel places the viewer instantly in the wilderness habitat of his subject.

Upward Mobility

by Rod Frederick

Rod Frederick’s trio of mountain goats clambering up a craggy cliff into the sky takes wildlife in a new direction: up. With its respectful and ethereal treatment of nature, sparse composition and vertical orientation, Upward Mobility resembles an ancient Chinese scroll.

Wait'n Fer 'em To....Moth'r up and Bed Down

by Bob Coronato

“Today, just as in the past, after calves are branded, they’re taken to a summer pasture. The cows and their calves become separated in the drive and anyone who has moved large numbers of cows knows that one thing is for sure—it’s loud. One by one the cows quiet down and mother-up, wandering off in pairs.

After a long day of moving cows, you can feel your body starting to creak. As the day begins to cool off, you and your horse just sit there. This was always an introspective time for me, sitting on my horse, waiting. You have time to look around and think. As the cows pair up it gets quieter and quieter, until there is just silence.”
