Mountain lions, although relatively common in many parts of North and South America, have been so persecuted over the years that the chances of actually spotting one are remote. The setting for this painting is Yellowstone National Park, under snow with the sun shining through the pines. The cat, in its thick winter coat, tracks a deer through deep snow.
