Flittens™ Books & Bisques

Discovered by Captain Katt on a harrowing trip to the far north exploring the Arctic regions. He carefully captured “Felinus arcticus”and took them aboard ship on a large block of ice to keep them comfortably cool for the lengthy voyage back to England and Mewingham Manor.

Habitat: Felinus arcticus is native to the frozen regions of the north, with some members of the species living as far south as Alaska, Canada and Scandinavia.

Habits: Some members of Felinus arcticus have adapted to life in the warmer climate at Mewingham Manor, gravitating to the frozen pond in the winter. They become more active at the first signs of winter, playing in the new snow and attempting to capture snowflakes on their paws.

Likes: Cold weather, snow and observing the many design variations of the snowflake. They have a craving for ice cream and often can be spied admiring themselves in smooth ice.

Dislikes: High summer in England.

Migration: Some members of the species migrate north to colder regions at the first sign of autumn. Those who have adapted to the seasonal climate at the manor stay throughout the year.

Laura Von Stetina
Laura's yard is filled with the flowers and plants she grows as subjects for her botanical and wildlife paintings. Her house is populated with the stray animals she has always welcomed. One notable was a stray cat that bestowed the family with kittens. Laura was so taken with their special skills that she observed them keenly, often sketching them in detail. While checking on them early one morning, she was amazed to discover they had sprouted wings! Thus was the inspiration for her series of "Flittens" which are imaginately enchanting as well as botanically and anatomically correct.
Laura's impressive credentials include a solo exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, participation in exhibits at the Cleveland Museum of Art, numerous awards from the Cleveland Society of Nature Artists among many others. Laura's love of nature has also included teaching and natural history museum work.
