With striking detail, stirring realism and unique composition, artist Daniel Smith enjoys wide acclaim for his spectacular depictions of wildlife. Bringing out the best traits in each of his wild subjects, Smith creating a sense of "aliveness" that can only be described as magical. Traveling frequently to research his subjects in their natural habitat, Smith believes there is no substitute for personal experience in the field. Having had a lifetime fascination with Africa, he spends two or three weeks a year, allowing the artistic inspiration surround him.

"My African paintings are more agressive," Smith says of "Fatal Attraction" which features an African leopard on the rim of Tanzania's 10-mile wide volcanic Ngorongoro Crater. You always get the feeling that Smith's subjects have just finished or are preparing to do something. "What I love abut this combination is the way that the exaggerated depth within a short focal range adds contrast to the light and texture of both the leopard and its misty, moody background."
