Writing reads: Crazy Horse with hail markings on himself and his horse for protection. Red hawk tail feather on his hair - Crazy Horse did not wear a war bonnet in battle, but did adorn Red-tail Hawk feathers because of the strength and swiftness associated with that bird of prey. The hail markings, worn for protection, were shown to him by wakiyans, or thunder beings, during a vision quest. |
